Chapter 16
“YOU DID WHAT?” RHIANNON virtually screamed, then she raised her hand and fisted me in the arm. “What the hell were you thinking?”
I cringed and rubbed at my bicep which was throbbing with pain. When I looked back at her it was to roll my eyes, not in the least contrite, though I knew I should have been. “I didn’t think it was a big deal. He’s just a baby.”
She shot me an icy glare while she pulled out her doctor’s bag. “A werewolf is a werewolf. Are you feeling any evidence of change?”
“No, nothing. I can’t even feel the bite anymore.” I crossed my arm over my chest and touched the spot. “It’s just a little bump. I can, however, feel this knot where some bully werevamp just punched me.”
“Wimp.”
Snorting, I twisted my body so she could poke at my shoulder. I heard her make a little noise in the back of her throat, then she reached into her bag and came back with a syringe.
“What the heck is that for?” I gaped at the thing as she opened its hermetically sealed container, exposing a needle that looked to be fit for an elephant.
She reached for my arm, tugging it towards her. “You came to me because I’m a doctor, so let me do my thing. Just sit still while I take some blood.”
I snatched my arm back, hugging it close to my chest. “I’m fine. You don’t need my blood.”
“Gawd, you are such a baby! Give me your arm.”
There was no use fighting her about it. She was stronger and faster than me so it was a losing battle. I was impressed with her skills at drawing blood because I barely felt the prick. I might have been a kick-ass witch, but needles scared the bejesus out of me.
“How does the wound look?”
She snorted. “What wound? There’s nothing there. Barely even a scar. Which is pretty darn strange if you ask me. Are you sure it drew blood?”
“My shirt was wet enough with it that Teddy noticed.”
“Ha!” She laughed as she headed off to her little mini-laboratory in the laundry room. “Bet Beck nearly had a heart attack over it.”
I bit my lip and raised my eyes to examine the ceiling. I could hear her fiddling around then finally she took a few steps and came to stand directly in front of me. “You didn’t tell him. Didn’t he see it?”
I shook my head. “So, how long’s this going to take? The blood test?”
“Oh.” She glanced over her shoulder then smiled back at me. “Should have results this evening or so.”
I watched her palm her belly, then wrinkle up her nose a little.
I cringed and squinted my eyes. “You okay? Does it hurt?”
She shrugged. “Not really hurt. Just a weird itchy feeling inside.”
“Weird itchy? Is that normal?”
She popped out a quick laugh. “Normal? This kid’s half werewolf and half sandman, and who knows whether the vamp part is in play, too. What the heck does normal mean?”
I knew she was worried about the fact that her baby would be a hybrid.
